Welcome to Opera del West

Don Pasquale at Amazing Things in Framingham

It’s time for a new Opera del West production, and we have some changes to announce for this particular show.  Due to construction at our usual home, The Center for Arts in Natick, we will be putting on our summer show at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham.  Only a few miles away, in a similarly remodeled firehouse, this production of Don Pasquale will have the same fully staged production values with an intimate feel

Come join Opera del West, a company that has successfully performed well-loved operas for the last 10 years at The Center for Arts in Natick. This summer, due to remodeling at TCAN, Amazing Things Arts Center will be hosting OdW’s performance of Donizetti’s comic masterpiece, “Don Pasquale”. Sly Norina may have figured out a way to marry Ernesto and get him back his inheritance, but she might have to wed his gullible old uncle first. Lyrical Bel Canto music and hilarity ensues. Sung by professional singers from the US and Canada, this should be a treat for all.  Norina will be performed by Megan Brunning who sang Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute for Asheville Opera, as well as being a regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in her home state of Georgia.  Salvatore Atti is Ernesto and has performed the title role of Faust in Buffalo Opera Unlimited as well as Alfredo in La Traviata at Flagstaff in Fidenza in Italy.  Our Pasquale is sung by Giovanni Spanu who recently performed Dulcamara at MYOpera’s performance of Elixir of Love, as well as Papageno in The Magic Flute in Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, both in his home town of Toronto, Canada.  Finally, Elliot Matheny is Dr Malatesta and performed Ford in the Shakespeare Opera Theatre production of Falstaff as well as Fiorello in The Barber of Seville with Loudon Lyric Opera in his home state of Virginia

This production will be performed in present day with the emphasis on similarities between Commedia dell’Arte characters of the 16th century and reality television characters of today.  Old men thinking they can marry young naïve women, doctors who manipulate their patients, and sad clowns who need their smart girlfriends to save the day.

Sung in Italian with English Supertitles, this show is stage directed by Brenda Huggins and music directed by Eve Budnick.

Friday, August 12 at 8 PM, and Sunday, August 14 at 2 PM.

Tickets: $20 Members, $25 Adults,  $24 Students and Seniors 65+
